Sacramento - Assemblymember Dr. Corey A. Jackson introduces a new bill, AB 1079 to combat hate crimes and promote diversity and inclusivity in California. AB 1079, includes the creation of a Hate Crimes Intervention Unit within the Department of Public Health and establishes a California Ad Council.
"Hate crimes have a devastating impact on communities and individuals, and we must take action to prevent them and promote inclusivity, safety, and justice in communities across California." said Assemblymember Dr. Corey A. Jackson. “AB 1079 will unite community leaders, organizations, and the state to research and implement effective and thoughtful interventions to address hate crimes and promote diversity and respect for all Californians."
The Hate Crimes Intervention Unit will work in partnership with community leaders and organizations to implement research-based interventions in communities where a hate crime has been confirmed. The California Ad Council will create and distribute statewide and regional anti-racism campaigns to raise awareness and promote understanding and respect for all Californians. These campaigns will be directly proportional and targeted to combat the % of hate crimes committed against each group.
Assemblymember Dr. Corey A. Jackson is committed to ensuring that all Californians are safe, respected, and valued, and this initiative is a critical step in that direction.
