SACRAMENTO – Dr. Corey A. Jackson was sworn in as the Assemblymember for District 60 today in the State Capitol. The newly elected Assemblymember will represent a large portion of Riverside County, including the communities of the new 60th Assembly District: Moreno Valley, Perris, Hemet, San Jacinto, and the unincorporated areas of Mead Valley, Good Hope, Nuevo, and East Hemet.
“I am honored and grateful to have been elected to represent my community at the state level to create policies that benefit the marginalized and the oppressed,” said Dr. Jackson. “This work will include employment development to help Californians thrive, to advocate for a healthier environment for our children to inherit, and quality healthcare for all residents. I will work hard to make sure that all people in California have the power to determine their own destiny.”
Dr. Jackson was previously elected to the Riverside County Board of Education in 2020. Prior to being sworn in, Dr. he served as the founder and Chief Executive Officer of SBX Youth and Family Services, whose mission is to break the cycle of poverty and violence through mentoring education, and community organizing. He continues to serve as the Political Action Chair of the Riverside NAACP and as Youth Minister at the Moreno Valley Church of Christ.
Jackson graduated from CSU San Bernardino, where he received his degree in political science and served as Chair of the Santo Manuel Student Union Board of Directors. He is also a graduate of California Baptist University, where he received both Master and Doctor of Social Work degrees. Dr. Corey Jackson is the first Black and openly LGBTQ California State Legislator.
