Women of the Year Honorees
Each year, in recognition of the innumerable contributions made by outstanding women throughout California, the Legislative Women’s Caucus hosts a celebration to highlight their achievements.
Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Corona) honored lifelong Corona resident MaryAnn Sherman as the 2019 Woman of the Year in the 60th Assembly District.
“I am proud to have selected MaryAnn Sherman as the 60th Assembly District Woman of the Year. Throughout her life, MaryAnn has dedicated her time, energy, and attention to improving the quality of life in our community. Her exceptional leadership, combined with her selfless service to others, is inspirational and most deserving of this honorable recognition,” said Assemblymember Cervantes.
MaryAnn has been a part of Corona’s history for over 50 years. Through her work as a librarian of 25 years with Corona-Norco Unified School District, a Corona Public Library Trustee, and even in retirement, MaryAnn has demonstrated her unwavering commitment to advocating for those who are in need of assistance, attention, and care. She currently serves as the second Vice President of Blue Star Mothers H.O.M.E., Public Relations Officer for the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 742, and is an active member of Circle City Kiwanis and St. Edwards Parish. Additionally, she coordinates a produce distribution program, donating approximately 20,000 lbs. of organic produce twice a month to churches, nonprofit organizations, veterans, seniors, and low-income families.
Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes honored Josie Gaytan of Jurupa Valley as the 60th Assembly District’s 2018 Woman of the Year.
Josie Gaytan has served as an advocate for our community for over 25 years—from her time with Jurupa Unified School District, to her work with the Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice and now, as Director of Healthy Jurupa Valley and Board Member of the Jurupa Area Recreation and Parks District. “Throughout her career, Josie has worked tirelessly to enhance the lives of others. Her exceptional leadership combined with the desire to serve her community is truly inspirational,” said Assemblymember Cervantes.
