Restoring the Vehicle License Fee for Cities

Thursday, May 4, 2017

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Corona) took charge of Senate Bill 130 when it came time for the Assembly to vote on the measure. SB 130 would alter the way the Vehicle License Fee, collected by the State, is distributed to cities. Assemblymember Cervantes explained to her fellow lawmakers that the four newest cities in Riverside County have been denied their equitable share of the VLF money because of an unintended consequence of legislation passed years ago that changed the way VLF funds are allocated. Most cities use the VLF dollars to pay for basic services such as police and fire. “SB 130 represents an important step toward restoring the funding for these four cities and restoring public safety services to our citizens,” said Assemblymember Cervantes.
