When Inland Empire Assemblywoman Sabrina Cervantes toured the terminal at the San Bernardino International Airport on a recent Friday, her focus wasn't on the former airbase's struggles to attract commercial carriers and return the area to the economic prosperity of decades past. Her focus was on the region's future, and for a moment, female high school students and lip balm.
Students from Summit High School in Fontana described their vocational training programs and showed the 31-year-old Assemblywoman, now serving in her second term, the lip balm they had made out of beeswax, the plastic containers it was stored in and the welded metal display stands they had made.
The students were there for the Inland Empire's Second Annual Women in Manufacturing Summit, along with local politicians and recruiters from laundry detergent, cardboard and automotive electronics manufacturers.
